Who are we?

After the Races is a 501(c)3 Thoroughbred rehabilitation and rehoming center located in Nottingham, Pennsylvania that takes in retiring Thoroughbred racehorses.  We combine the horse’s history from the track with a vetting on the farm so that we can then put together a rehabilitation plan that fits each individual horse’s needs. As the horse is rehabilitated, we spend time evaluating the horse’s temperament and physical capabilities.  When ready, we begin the retraining process for horses in the program and seek to match them up with suitable, long-term homes that fit each individual horse.

Horses come to After the Races through various backstretch programs initiated by local racetracks dedicated to finding good homes for horses in their care. We also receive horses from private owners and trainers who are looking to ensure their horses get a chance at a second career beyond racing. Since After the Races’ inception in late 2010, we have found an increasing desire among racing professionals to see their horses get a second chance and we could not be more excited to work with them to realize this dream.

Our Organization

We are a nonprofit organization and we are able to do our work thanks to the wonderful help of our volunteers, donations from fellow horse enthusiasts, and any proceeds gained when horses find their new homes. Every dollar is precious to us and goes directly toward feeding and caring for these amazing animals.

After the Races strives to attend or host several events throughout the year. Details will be posted on our website as the dates approach and we hope you will join us. Likewise, if you are associated with any groups that would like to visit or receive a demonstration/lecture featuring After the Races as we speak on Thoroughbred rehabilitation and adoption, please do not hesitate to contact us. We love speaking with groups and would gladly make arrangements to do so.

Thank you for visiting us here at AfterTheRaces.org.  Please know that this is the only official After the Races website and location. If you have any questions, comments, or would like to know more about the horses we have available, please visit our Facebook Page or e-mail us.

Thank you,
Bonnie Hutton

What People Say

Bonnie is one of the nicest people I know, and really spends time on each horse and makes sure that they get a great home. I love this organization, and all the people that they work with!!

Kelsey Hineman

I adopted my ottb from here in April 2013.. and had the best experience with bonnie and her team. They were knowlegable and the horses were in amazing condition. I got all known information on my horse- including that he had an old fracture. Not everyone is so honest about things like that. They really took the time to match me up with the right horse:)

Marie Coale

We’ve been working with several TB placement groups and so far ATR has been the most responsive, honest, easy to deal with of them all. Looking forward to finding a horse on Monday.

Deb Bauer

Thank you for all your time and effort with Laura (and her Shallowbrook buds). We are a particular bunch and as a result, consider our horses as our lifetime partners. You and ATR play a huge part in that – as our equine partners become a part of an extended, watchful and loving family. Thanks to you, Khan has joined our family <3
