“Falcor” is a portly gelding that arrived from Monmouth Park’s Second Call program in September, 2016. He is among the war horses in the barn at 8 years old and having raced an amazing 60 times! This nice sized, chestnut gelding retired with a sesamoid fracture that was reported to be quite small and inconsequential. Unfortunately, radiographs showed a different story and we made a rehab plan for Falcor which will carry him well into 2017 before he is available for adoption.
While his prognosis initially was uncertain, he’s been making all his milestones and has become very sound! We’re very happy to report that after five long months of stall rest, Falcor now goes outside every day with his pony friend Styx in a small paddock. come March we hope to see him turned out in the big field and ready to go to work again.
Falcor has maintained a pretty positive attitude throughout his rehab, put on quite a few pounds, and proven to be very classy for his hand walking and limited exercise. We think he’ll make a fantastic low-level addition to a riding program or trail horse to a very lucky adopter one day soon.
