Deputize is a coming-5 year old mare that came to ATR by way of Second Call in New Jersey who stepped in to pull her and another mare from a kill pen in Maryland. After Deputize had several months at a quarantine farm, she rode back to ATR with another mare more recently pulled from an auction, so the two are in quarantine here until we’re sure they’re clear of any illness.
Deputize raced 10 times with her last race in August of 2016. We’re unsure what she’s done in the year since racing, but we know she has a brother who is an accomplished show jumper. On the ground she seems sweet and well-mannered, though I imagine she’ll need someone experienced at bringing along a horse with little to no retraining and a good bit of time off.
The current plan is to test her and the other mare for Strangles around February 14. If they are both negative, we’ll test again the next 1-2 weeks after and then hopefully they’ll be able to leave quarantine.
