“Dancer” is a coming-9 year old mare that came to ATR by way of Second Call in New Jersey who stepped in to pull her and another mare from a kill pen in Maryland. She is a more recent auction pull and was not quite finished with quarantine before she arrived, so she has entered quarantine at our farm.
If her tattoo was read correctly, she never raced and we’re not sure what she’s been up to in her life. We’re suspicious that her ID is not accurate though as she looks closer to 3 years old and seems very well handled and well behaved for a horse who may have been dong nothing. She did come with shoes on so we suspect she’d been ridden in recent history.
The current plan is to test her and the other mare for Strangles around February 14. If they are both negative, we’ll test again the next 1-2 weeks after and then hopefully they’ll be able to leave quarantine.
