Rakete is a very cool, 7 year old chestnut gelding by Broken Vow. He stands around 16.2 hands tall and is a big guy all around. Rakete came to After the Races by way of Monmouth Park’s Second Call program, though he had a roundabout way of getting here.

Retiring sound from his last race in late August, 2016, Rakete was put into the Second Call program which gave him some time off and then sent him to a university program in New Jersey that’s successfully worked with several of their horses in years past. Unfortunately after having some problems managing him properly, Second Call made the decision to pick him up.

After a little time at another farm that works with Second Call, he arrived to After the Races barefoot and very comfortable, and ready to go back to work. A recent evaluation has found an old ligament injury and small changes to the front right fetlock that will make him suitable for a low level career. While jumping is not out of the question, we believe he would excel as a fox hunter rather than a competitive show jumper.

We have been riding Rakete when time and weather permits and he’s a push-ride and generally easy going. He loves to be ridden in a hackamore and has been enjoying some trail rides recently as well. We’re sure he’ll come along quickly in a program with an experienced rider.

Rakete’s adoption fee is currently $1,000 but will go up as his training progresses.
