Catfive is a dark bay, 15.3 hand, 4 year old gelding that retired and arrived to After the Races in late August, 2015. He came to us in good shape, retiring after no longer being competitive. The exact words from his trainer when asked how he was under saddle was “slow and lazy!” While we’re sure that’s relative to his racing career, one of his riders at the track also said he was a good ride who she always enjoyed getting on.
Catfive received a great checkup from our vet who confirmed he had clean legs, jogs sound, and doesn’t appear to have any obvious limitations. He does have a somewhat asymmetrical pelvis which he thinks was from when he was a baby and should not pose any limitation for his future career.
Catfive is a nice mover, pleasant to work with, and gets along well with other horses. He has been started under saddle and has proven a very quick learner and eager to please. He’s got a great, quiet temperament and loves trail riding too. Currently we’re mostly focusing on walk/trot and stretching and bending, but he’s making very quick progress.
