Da’Blues Dancer – “Blue”
Da’Blues Dancer – “Blue”
On a blustery morning in November, staff and volunteers from After the Races excitedly gathered together to prep and deliver sweet Da’Blues Dancer to her new home at Leg Up Farm. Blue is a war horse who retired through Maryland’s Beyond the Wire program. She’s spent ten months at After the Races rehabilitating after retiring upon her 50th race.
This sweet girl has left a strong impression on everyone she’s met through After the Races. When it became clear that riding was not in her future, we reached out to our awesome network to try and find her an excellent home as a therapy horse.
Enter Leg Up Farm, a non-profit therapy center serving children (and adults!) with special needs in York County, Pennsylvania. Leg Up Farm recently began a veterans program as well as program for survivors of trauma, in addition to their existing horsemanship therapy program. With the help of donations, we were able to recoup Blue’s expenses to our program, set her up for success with a very expensive but amazing regenerative treatment in the way of a ProStride injection, and deliver her with a new blanket and some grain. Before leaving she received additional chiropractic and farrier work so that she could start with her best hoof forward.
We know she’s going to be awesome!
