Dubai Journey is a 16 hand, 2014, chestnut gelding who came to us in February by way of his racing owners. He is by E Dubai and out of a Jules mare and never actually raced. “DJ,” as he’s called, was bred and owned by the same family in Pennsylvania his whole life prior to arrival here. They did start him and take him to the track for training, but he had a few false starts and they ultimately decided to take him home to their farm after he had some tendonitis. They don’t normally rehome their horses, but after sending ATR two others previously that we did well with, they thought he deserved at finding a home that will love and ride him.
DJ is a sweet boy on the ground. He is a stocky, QH-type TB with great, bare feet and no vices. We have had DJ in professional training since June and he’s coming along very nicely. He’s been ridden in an indoor as well as out on trails walk, trot, and canter and over poles. He’s a very fancy mover, with an uphill canter and gaits that a dressage rider would LOVE. On trails he’s quietest if he’s in the lead and has crossed bridges, water, etc without issue. He will get a little antsy when not in front. In the indoor or arena he’s a light ride and needs a quiet, confident rider who will reward him with kindness as he progresses. He works very hard to please, but will not do well with someone who gets frustrated easily or tough on their horses.
We think he would really shine in a dressage home but he has no limitations and could go in any direction with the right rider. He’s a forward-thinking horse so would do best with an experienced rider who enjoys that sort of uphill, go-get-em attitude. He has been working very well on his leg yields, turns on his haunches and forehand, and developing nice transitions with his trainer.
