Malibu Billy is a 4 year old, 16.1+ hand, bay gelding that came to us in partnership with Beyond the Wire in Maryland. He only had one start in 2023, and he won, but he bowed a tendon then or shortly after. He came back to training and just wasn't running as strong as they'd like, so his connections decided to let him go on to a new career.

He was sound for his evaluation at the track and remained sound for his intake evaluation here at the farm. Our vet verified he had a bowed tendon (SDFT) but that it was an older injury that's still healing, rather than a fresh tear. He has been getting turned out daily in one of our small grass paddocks and is a lot of fun to watch and to work with. He's playful and sweet, but also easy to handle considering his confinement and recent departure from the racetrack.

Billy is by Free Drop Billy and out of a Malibu Moon mare, as one might expect. This means on his sire's side, he has some greats such as Union Rags and Giant's Causeway. His dam's side of course features Malibu Moon which largely speaks for itself.

Our vet is going to re-evaluate Billy mid-June to see if he is ready for full turnout. He is eligible for our Recover at Home Program (check it out under our "About" menu on the website) and likely just needs several months of turnout before returning to work. We will certainly update as he progresses!
