Description
Penzi was adopted by Aimee just down the road in Oxford, PA. Having delivered him, I can attest that his initial arrival went well and we’re continuing to get good reports! Aimee is looking forward to giving him an easy winter, hacking and getting to know each other, and then working toward introducing him to eventing in the spring. We can’t wait to hear how he does!

“Penzi” is a tall, dark, and handsome 5 year old by Freud and out of British breeding. He arrived to ATR at the end of August, just a week off his last race. Penzi retired through Monmouth Park’s Second Call program. He is over 16 hands and very-dark bay. This sweet guy was delivered personally by one of his racing connections who declared he simply “hated everything about being a racehorse.” His record of 20 starts, with only modest earnings at best, reflect that lackluster career.
While a little wary of his new surroundings upon arrival, Penzi has quickly warmed up to his new routine and handlers. He stood professionally for the farrier and vet, and seems to have a kind, if not a little worried, eye, that is very endearing. It took him a few days to fit in with his very quiet herd of geldings, but now that he’s one of the crew, he’s really enjoying farm life to the fullest.
As Penzi gets some well-deserved let-down, we aren’t asking much of him, but he’s been showing off his moves in the pasture. This boy has a big, beautiful stride that we could see eating up a cross country course or refined into a dressage ring. After a clean vet evaluation here on the farm, we’d encourage competitive riders to keep their eyes on this one.
